Volkswagen to deliver 13,600 vehicles to Deutsche Post

The Volkswagen group will deliver 13,600 vehicles to Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN) over thenext two years. The contract continues decades of cooperation between the two German companies.

The Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles unit will deliver 8,700 Caddies and 4,900 T5 transporters toDeutsche Post by 2007. Volkswagen chairman Bernd Pischetsrieder symbolically handed over the keyfor the 5,000th vehicle to DPWN chairman Klaus Zumwinkel on December 15. The vehicles, manufacturedin Germany and Poland, will be used for postal and parcel deliveries in Germany.

Pischetsrieder said VW had delivered more than 280,000 vehicles to Deutsche Post and itspredecessor organisations over the last 60 years. “Therefore, statistically, we have handed over avehicle to Deutsche Post every two hours in the past 60 years”, he commented. Zumwinkel emphasizedthat Volkswagen submitted the best overall bid in the invitation to tender for Germany.

Overall, Deutsche Post World Net has a fleet of 79,000 vehicles. The agreement gives Volkswagenthe largest share of vehicles in the Deutsche Post fleet.
