Online tracking of parcels is growing fast as businesses and consumers seek to keep track ofwhere their Christmas shipments are within the supply chain, according to UPS. The parcels giant
said it expects to top 100 million online package tracking requests during its peak week ofDecember 19-23.This new milestone would be a huge jump from a decade ago when 100,000 online package trackingrequests were registered for an entire month, and a hundred-fold increase from UPS’s first onemillion request week, which occurred in December 1997.
“Our annual $1 billion investment in technology is focused on bringing us closer than ever toour customers, which means treating each customer as if they were the only one,” said Dave Barnes,senior vice president and CIO. “And providing customers the ability to quickly track their packagesvia UPS.com is an example of how our investment is paying off.”
The holidays are the busiest time of the year for UPS, with peak day delivery volume climbing asmuch as 43 per cent to 20 million packages worldwide.
