DHL has launched new, ten times a week, direct cargo flights between Hong Kong and the USA. Ithas also set up an operations gateway at Guangzhou airport under its China expansion strategy.
The new service, operated by Thai cargo carrier Transmile to Wilmington with a stopover atLos Angeles, lifts the total number of commercial uplift and dedicated freighters operating theHong Hong Kong – USA route to more than 100 flights per week, DHL said. “The new flight is part ofour strategy to strengthen our service to the U.S., which is one of the key export markets forAsia. It is our foremost priority to provide best-in-class transit time to our customers, and wewill continue to enhance our infrastructure and capacity as required to meet these needs,” saidRoss Allen, senior vice president – Aviation, DHL Express Asia Pacific. DHL will double capacity atits Central Asia SuperHub (CAS) in Hong Kong by end-2007 under a $110 million investmentprogramme.
DHL has also set up a new Guangzhou Gateway at the new Baiyun Airport – the first internationalexpress company to deploy operations at the new airport. As an extension of its strategy to furtherintensify its operations in Greater China, DHL added a new direct overnight express service betweenTokyo (Narita) and Shanghai (Pudong) in November 2005, and also announced an upgrade of its PudongGateway in Shanghai.
