Royal Mail has named Ian Griffiths, group managing director of GKN Automotive, as managingdirector of its letters division. The move is part of a wider management re-shuffling ahead of full
postal liberalisation in Britain from January 2006.Griffiths, expected to take up the post early next year, will have day-to-day responsibility forthe delivery of Royal Mail’s annual postbag of more than 20 billion letters, and will join theboard of Royal Mail Holdings plc. He will report to Royal Mail’s Group Chief Executive, AdamCrozier, who has run Royal Mail Letters on a temporary basis since April 2004.
“Royal Mail is about to enter one of the most challenging periods in its history and I amlooking forward to being part of the team that helps drive the development of the business duringthe new era of open competition,” Griffiths said in a statement. Adam Crozier added: “With the mailmarket opening to full competition in just over a month’s time, Ian will be a real asset for RoyalMail as we seek to sharpen our competitive edge by providing even better service to customers.”& #160;
Royal Mail is also due to announce a new managing director for Post Office Ltd, its counternetwork business, to replace David Mills.
