DHL has put an expanded sorting centre into operation at Cologne/Bonn airport. The firstcontainer was ceremonially pushed into the handling terminal by the state transport minister Oliver
Wittke, together with Lars Jordahn, DHL director of Hubs & Gateways Europe, and airportmanaging director Michael Garvens.The capacity of DHL’s existing 8,000 sqm sorting centre at Cologne/Bonn airport has beenincreased by about 35 per cent with the adjoining new 6,300 sqm building. DHL now operates throughthree interlinked freight halls. The new building is used for cargo unloading and the loading ofbulky freight. Construction of the new freight hall cost about six million euros together withthree million euros for infrastructure. DHL has rented the terminal for ten years.
