Royal Mail has announced that Marisa Cassoni, its group finance director, will be stepping downfrom her role and leaving the company at the end of December. Her departure comes at a critical
time for the British state postal operator which faces full postal liberalisation from January2006.Royal Mail said that Cassoni, who joined the board four years ago, had been a key member of theteam which had seen the company through its successful three-year renewal plan. Chairman AllanLeighton said: “When I first arrived, Marisa was the only executive who had experience ofturnaround and she has played a valuable part in sorting out both the finance of the Royal Mail andin creating a platform of financial control for us to move forward on.”
The British post office faces a series of financial and strategic challenges over the comingmonths including solving a major pensions deficit, agreeing a new long-term stamp pricing structurewith the UK regulator Postcomm and speculation regarding a possible partial privatisation.
