FedEx Express said it will add more flights to and from India and expand services in thesub-continent to offer improved transit and cut-off times, increased cargo capacity and faster and
more flexible access to the global marketplace. The service enhancements come into effect onNovember 1.FedEx, which has gateways in Mumbai and Delhi, said the increased flight frequencies improvedconnectivity between key export centres and regional hubs, and would benefit customers in Delhi andnorth India in particular. The flight changes would also enable it to fly shipments of greaterweight and size. The express operator did not provide details of the flight changes, however. TheUS express carrier also said that it had set up a new trucking network in India that would allowlater pick-up times from all key markets.
“India’s GDP is growing at a rate of seven per cent a year, making it one of the fastest-growingeconomies in the world. This growth represents huge potential for our customers in terms of marketexpansion and global trade,” said Robert W. Elliott, president, FedEx Express Europe Middle Eastand Africa. “Enhanced transit times, additional capacity and the ability to clear customs onlocation will facilitate faster and easier trade with powerful trading blocs like Europe, and helpIndian businesses take advantage of the new trade opportunities in Eastern Europe.”
“FedEx was the first air express company to establish direct international air routes in Indiaand our commitment is to provide our customers with a superior international express service, withmaximum connectivity by air,” added Jacques Creeten, managing director, FedEx India.
The service expansion meant FedEx continued to operate the largest number of internationalflights of any express carrier in India, and now had almost 3,500 people working for the companyand its contractors through 250 FedEx branded retail outlets and a transportation system connecting4,348 cities and towns across India.
