Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN) is eyeing both acquisitions and organic growth to expand itspresence in the fast-growing Indian logistics market, according to media reports. The planned
acquisition of Exel would boost DHL’s network on the sub-continent but the company was alsointerested in “attractive acquisitions”, DPWN chairman Klaus Zumwinkel was quoted as saying.Zumwinkel has opened a new DHL India head office in Mumbai as part of a tour of the company’sIndian subsidiaries.DPWN is market leader in the Indian express market through its subsidiary Blue Dart while itslogistics business is operated through DHL Danzas Lemuir, a joint venture with an Indian transportcompany. Zumwinkel told international media that DHL had “a highly attractive double-digit profitmargin” in India and was particularly interested in the domestic market. DPWN has budgeted up to$250 million a year for growth in the overall Asia-Pacific region.
