DHL Express has won a three-year contract to provide express delivery within the European Unionfor the Air France – KLM group. The express company will deliver all parcels sent to European
destinations and all internal documents for the two airlines. The new contract represented improvedefficiency for Air France – KLM, and enabled DHL Express to increase its market share in theairline industry, the express firm said.DHL Express has already worked closely with KLM in the Netherlands over the last three years,and the new contract represents extension of this business by gaining Air France as a customer. DHLand KLM have invested in joint IT and Finance solutions, such as automatic transfer of shipmenttrack & trace information.
To arrange procurement for the new contract, Air France – KLM set up a Franco-Dutch logisticsteam which defined the requirements and criteria for the delivery contract within a period of sixmonths. Through close collaboration, online bidding via the strategic sourcing system Procuri,proved to be a huge success for both organisations. KLM has also developed an internal system thatenables all KLM establishments to book a DHL courier automatically via a website application.
