GLS Austria said it has opened 50 of its planned 500 parcel shops, and a further 40 will openshortly. The new shops for consumers to hand in and pick up parcels are part of the wider GLS
strategy to develop a pan-European network of outlets that CEO Rico Back recently announced.Thirty of the 50 shops opened over the last two months are in retail outlets, and ten within GLSdepots. A test phase with petrol stations in and around Vienna will finish at the end of September,and further cooperation will be evaluated. “The parcel shop initiative is going to plan,” saidChristof Bader, managing director of GLS Austria. Shop customers are offered domestic deliverywithin 24 hours, and delivery within 24 to 96 hours to 21 EU states.
