DHL invests $3 million in new Kansas regional centre

DHL has announced plans for a new regional sorting centre in Kansas City, Kansas, to strengthenits US network. The express company expects to invest $3 million over the next three years in the

development of the new facility, which will immediately create 130 local jobs.

The new Kansas City facility will begin operations on September 11, 2005, and serve 27 DHLservice stations in the region. It will broaden DHL’s scope to offer one-day ground services toMissouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, and parts of Arkansas and Oklahoma. The new 68,678 square footfacility has a sorting capacity of 7,000 pieces per hour, and will handle a variety of shipments,including letter and parcel items, palletized and container freight.

“The new facility in Kansas City will enhance our network operation by enabling us to providethe highest quality service to our growing customer base across the country,” said Fred Beljaars,Executive Vice President for Operations at DHL. “The centre is one element of our $1.2 billioninvestment program launched in 2004 to enhance DHL’s network connectivity, increase efficiency, andimprove service for our customers.”

The new regional sort centre is part of DHL’s continuing investment in its US network, whichincludes the expanded DHL Air & Ground Hub in Wilmington, Ohio, a new West Coast DistributionFacility in Riverside, California, and significant expansion of an East Coast distribution facilityin Allentown, Pennsylvania. An additional seven new Regional Sort Centres were completed during2004.
