French market leader Geodis increased its half-year net sales rose by 5.5 per cent (4.7 per centon a comparable exchange rate and consolidation basis) to 1.76 billion euros. Sales in France grew
5.3 per cent to 1.24 billion euros due to good growth in air and sea freight forwarding, newautomotive logistics contracts and continued growth in its road transport and express businesses.Geodis achieved strong growth in Europe apart from Italy with growth in net sales of 13.9 percent.Growth was driven by Eastern Europe and several new logistics contracts. But Italy sales dropped6.6 per cent due to the country’s sluggish economic situation and the subsidiary’s restructuringoperations. Overall, Geodis achieved half-year growth of 4.3 per cent (3.9 per cent on alike-for-like basis) to revenues of 488 million euros. In the rest of the world, Geodis reportedstrong growth in Asia, and achieved an overall increase of 32 per cent to 85 million euros.
