Royal Mail announced that its postmen and women have delivered to customers a record performanceduring April to June with a target-beating 93.4% of First Class letters arriving the day after
posting.The performance for the spring quarter is the best in a decade and shows an improvement onthe record performance during the January to March period, according to the early results fromindependent research into the letter service across the UK””s 121 postcode areas. The targetlevel for First Class mail rose this spring from 92.5% to 93.0%. Second Class mail also beat itstarget level of 98.5% delivered within three working days with a 98.6% performance. The earlyresults also show that the Mailsort and Presstream bulk mail services, along with Royal Mail’sStandard parcel service, are all performing above their target levels.
Adam Crozier, Royal Mail´s Chief Executive, said: that postmen and women had achieved aremarkable turnaround, turning losses on operations of more than £1 million a day into a profit ofmore than £2 million a day, successfully implementing operational changes and reversing servicefailures to deliver to customers the best quality of service in a decade. As well as speed ofdelivery, 99.93% of the mail was being safely delivered to the correct destination.
The postal market, which was previously a monopoly supplied by Royal Mail, will open to fullcompetition from January.
