Starting in July, Deutsche Post will be extending its PC franking offer to parcel dispatch withDHL. The new prepaid parcel stamp is created and printed out on a personal computer using the
STAMPIT WEB online franking software. From July on, eBay sellers canbe the first to use this new service within Germany, and beginning in the fall, the extension canbe drawn on by users of the STAMPIT BUSINESS and STAMPIT HOME versions. At that point, the special PC franking servicefor parcel dispatch within Europe will also be available. This makes DHL the first Europeanlogistics provider to supply its items with integrated routing codes within PC franking.The online prepaid parcel stamp can be printed out on a standard label or on any sheet of paperand affixed to the parcel. Required are an Internet browser and the free Adobe Reader, version 6.02or higher. As a function of weight, parcel-post stamps for either 5, 10, or 20 kilos can be printedout.
The self-printed prepaid parcel stamp contains the usual STAMPIT matrix code, which acts as a “digital stamp.” It contains thebar codes needed to post and transport parcels as well. This also allows for track and trace ofitems at any time via STAMPIT WEB or the DHL website.
STAMPIT is already being used on 80,000 personal computers in Germany.Licenses for corresponding independent solutions have been issued in Great Britain andSwitzerland.
