DHL, the express and logistics subsidiary of Deutsche Post World Net, is expanding its logisticslocation Staufenberg (near Kassel). About 44 million euro will be invested in a 50,000-square-meter
multi-function logistics center. Approximately 300 new jobs will be created as a result. Theexpansion of DHL’s logistics capacities is being carried out in direct response to concrete demandsfrom customers for integrated logistics services. The center is scheduled to start operations atthe beginning of October.DHL already operates a parcel center, an express terminal and a fulfillment center inStaufenberg. The new multi-function center will be integrated into the existing infrastructure onan area of 90,000 square meters. Services covering the entire value chain are offered to mail-orderand Internet traders, in particular: from traditional warehousing through order picking and thedistribution of consignments to invoicing. At full capacity, the center will be able to handleroughly five million more consignments a year.
“Staufenberg is the third state-of-the-art DHL logistics platform set up in the space of justhalf a year. Like the expansions in Greven and Bremen, our customers here will also profit fromintegrated solutions and another improvement in service quality. And DHL is once again proving tobe a job engine for people in the region,” says Dr. Peter Kruse, the Board Member at Deutsche PostWorld Net in charge of the express business in Germany and Europe.
The new multi-function center broadens the scope of services offered on site because it isdirectly connected to the DHL transportation network thanks to its proximity to the DHL parcelcenter and the DHL express terminal. In combination with the existing fulfillment center and thecentral location in the middle of Germany and Europe, this will allow for a substantial extensionof order processing times. For example, parcels that DHL receives well after midnight will stillgenerally arrive at their destination in Germany the following day.
