OTTO Group: Plans to enter into logistics market

According to a report of the newspaper “Die Welt” the world-wide largest mail order company“OTTO Group” plans to enter into the logistics business. OTTO wants to offer access to their own

dispatch and storage centers with approximately 5,800 persons employed to third parties- so farOTTO used the country-wide seven centers in Germany exclusivly for their own distribution.According to the newspaper a final decision is expected to be taken before mid July 20005.

By opening their dispatch and storage centers in Hamburg,  Karlsruhe, Haldensleben,Burbach, Ohrdruf, Hanau and Loehne OTTO would become one of the top logitics companies in Germany.As Otto already operates its own parcel service (Hermes Versand), market observers expect thatthese plans would mean serious competition to Deutsche Post.
