New tasks for the DHL Logistics Center in Dortmund

DHL

Effectively immediately, the DHL Fürst Hardenberg Logistics Center in Dortmund will now also handlethe consumer goods shipping to the Benelux nations for the US corporation Johnson & Johnson.

With this new contract, DHL Solutions anticipate a total volume of an additional 4,000 tons peryear. The goods imclude more than 200 hygiene and healthcare items.

Thus, the central warehouse, which is already in charge of distributing the goods in Germany, will also take over the responsibilities of the previous site in the Netherlands. “The expansion ofthe Hardenberg site into a central European warehouse is part of our internationalization strategy, which we are putting to work in Dortmund together with DHL as an established logistics partner,”explains Klaus Poloczek, European Supply Chain Director at Johnson & Johnson.

Taking over transport activities to the Benelux nations was accomplished in no time at all. Dr.Stefan Kurrle, CEO of DHL Solutions, states, “It was our stipulated objective to prep the sitewithin three months for the new day-to-day operations without the customers of Johnson &Johnson ever noticing anything at all about this relocation.” To this end, ten new employees werealready taught the ropes, which brings the workforce total at the Dortmund site up to 140. “It isonly through this type of partnership cooperation that it is possible to successfully implement aproject as sophisticated as this one within such a short amount of time,” adds Uwe Beckmann, who isin charge of the Hardenberg site as Supply Chain Director for Germany and Austria at Johnson &Johnson.
